IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
As you consider joining this year’s Competitive Team, please keep the following in mind. We require 100% commitment from both the dancers and their parents. This dedication is essential for the success of the team and ensures a positive experience for everyone involved.

Being part of a competitive team involves regular practices, performances, and competitions, all of which require consistent attendance and engagement. We believe that this commitment fosters teamwork, discipline, and personal growth for the dancers. Your support and involvement as parents are equally important, as they help create a strong foundation for the team.

We appreciate your understanding and commitment to making this a rewarding experience for all. Please ensure that you read this entire document to fully understand what is required and to be prepared for everything that is to come!

REGULAR COMPETITIVE CREWS
All regular competitive crews will have one mandatory practice per week. It’s essential for all dancers to attend these sessions to ensure they’re fully prepared.

All regular competitive crews are guaranteed 25 classes for the year, which includes any general rehearsals and photoshoot days.
Depending on the day you dance, the school you are at, and any winter storm cancellations, you may receive more than 25 classes.
Please note that if unforeseen circumstances arise, we will not be able to reschedule those classes

You can find the competitive crew schedule here: https://portal.remixdance.ca/student-area/dance-classes/2024-2025

You can find all scheduling information in our private Facebook group. These groups are specifically designed to keep everyone informed about important announcements, practice details, videos, and any updates. Staying engaged in the group is crucial for ensuring a smooth and successful season for all.

COMPETITIVE DANCER RULES

Attendance:
You must attend your regular weekly classes.

Dancers may miss no more than 3 classes throughout the year. Plan all vacations and activities accordingly, as we cannot grow as an ensemble when people are absent.

If you need to be absent, please provide a valid reason, such as severe illness or a family emergency. It’s essential that you notify Bonnie first and then inform your teacher in advance if you absolutely must miss a class.

When returning from an absence, you are responsible for learning the missed choreography prior to the next class.

Punctuality and Attitude:
Arrive on time for class and be ready to participate.

Maintain a positive attitude and put forth your best effort in every class.

Dancers should come motivated and dedicated, fostering a positive environment during practices.

Respect and Team Spirit:
Show respect to all parents, faculty members, and fellow dancers, both in and out of dance practices.

Encourage and support your teammates to build a strong, collaborative spirit.

Be open to constructive feedback and strive for improvement.

Practice:
Regularly practice your skills and choreography at home as instructed by your teacher. To ensure you’re fully prepared for your next practice, it's important for students to review their moves during the week following each session. This will help you arrive confident and ready, with everything down pat.

Additional Rules:
Cell phones should be silenced and put away during class.

Please dress appropriately for all classes by adhering to the following dress code:

Dance Attire: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for freedom of movement such as t-shirts or tank tops, hoodies, joggers, leggings or shorts.

Footwear: Use clean, supportive sneakers that are specifically designed for dance to ensure safety and proper movement.

Indoor and Outdoor Shoes: All students must have INDOOR SHOES and OUTDOOR SHOES at all times throughout the year.

All outdoor shoes must be left in the hallway of your school.

Students must change into their indoor shoes at every practice.

Please note that students will not be allowed to dance without shoes or while wearing their outdoor shoes.

POSITIVE POLICY

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS: WE ARE MAKING SURE TO CREATE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE

As we embark on this exciting new year, we want to emphasize the importance of fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere for all our dancers and their families. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and motivated to thrive.

OUR COMMITMENT TO POSITIVITY:

- NO DRAMA, NO NEGATIVITY: We are committed to maintaining a drama-free zone. We expect all students and parents to support one another and create a welcoming environment, especially in the halls while waiting, on social media, in group chats, and in public in general.

- BUILDING FRIENDSHIPS: We encourage students to get along, communicate openly, and build friendships. Talking behind each other’s backs is not acceptable and undermines our team spirit.

- STRICT POLICIES:This year, we are focused on maintaining a positive atmosphere for everyone. We kindly ask that all students and parents contribute to this environment. While we hope to avoid any issues, please be aware that negative behavior may lead to consequences, which could include reassessment of team participation.

We believe that a positive mindset is essential for success, both individually and as a team. Let’s work together to make this year the best one yet, filled with encouragement, collaboration, and joy.

WINTER STORMS OR UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES

In the event of winter storms or unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to cancel scheduled classes without prior notice. If this occurs, you will be notified in the afternoon via our Facebook group. Please note that many of the schools we rent from will automatically cancel our classes if their buses are cancelled in the morning. While we always strive to find an alternative location, this is not always feasible.

1. Cancellation: Classes may be canceled if conditions are unsafe for travel or participation.

2. No Rescheduling: Canceled classes will not be rescheduled.

3. No Refunds: Fees for canceled classes will not be reimbursed.

By enrolling, you acknowledge and accept this policy. Thank you for your understanding.

FUNDRAISERS

This year in order to get organized in advance, we will be starting our fundraisers as early as possible. It is very important that all competitive dancers do their part. The money raised will be used to pay for competition fees and/or tuition fees.

We will be sending out all the specific info for each fundraiser on the Private Facebook Groups for each competitive team.

COMPETITVE COSTUME

Outfits for the competitions must all be identical.  Points for costumes are awarded at each competition.

An outfit list will be available on the Facebook group in the first few months of classes in order to give you enough time to shop and purchase what is required

Please make sure to order your outfit as soon as it is posted in order to avoid any items being sold out or no longer available

Outfit costs can vary from 150-300$ for each competitive group.  You will either be asked to purchase the costume yourself or send an e-transfer to the person responsible if it was purchased for you.

REMIX OUTFIT
We’re thrilled to introduce our brand-new black zip-up hoodie for this year, along with stylish grey joggers featuring a sleek black and white logo! These zip-up hoodies are perfect for wearing over your costumes, making it easier than ever to stay comfortable and stylish at all competitions—no more worrying about messing up your hair and makeup!

Please note that there is an additional fee for the Remix Outfit, which students are required to wear after performing at all competitions. The cost is $110 plus taxes. To ensure everyone has their outfit in time, orders will need to be placed at the beginning of the year. Students can expect to receive their outfits within the first few months of classes. Get ready to look great and represent our team with pride! We will post a message in the Facebook group in the first few weeks of classes with details on how to place your order.

PHOTOSHOOT
All competitive groups will have a special photoshoot at the Salle Optimiste on the stage, complete with professional lighting. This photoshoot will be conducted by the dance director herself, using her phone camera to capture the images. Please note that we will not be holding photoshoots for solos, duos, or trios.

The cost for this photoshoot is $40 per dancer, which covers setup costs, technician fees, lighting fees, hall rental, the teachers working that day, and the photographer’s time, ensuring a great experience with quality images. Students will be asked to bring payment on the day of the shoot. All photos will be shared in a Google Drive folder, giving everyone on the team access to the full collection. If you choose to have any photos printed, that will be at your discretion. New this year, only group photos will be taken during this photoshoot; individual poses will not be included.

The cost for the Thrive photoshoot is $45 per dancer, as it includes both a video shoot and additional photos. For Megacrews, the fee is $20 per dancer.

Detailed information regarding costumes, hair and makeup, and exact date and schedules will be shared in the Facebook group. Please note that the times listed below are estimates and may be subject to change. Some teams may require more than one hour, in which case additional time will be allocated

OVERVIEW & SUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL COSTS

We want to ensure transparency by providing a comprehensive overview of the additional costs not included in the tuition fee, so you won’t encounter any surprises throughout the year. These fees will be due around the time of the events or upon request. By keeping these costs separate, we can effectively manage scheduling and minimize refund complications in the event of cancellations:

Mandatory Workshops ($25 each): Three essential workshops to enhance skills, designed to equip participants with valuable training and ensure they get the most out of their experience. This cost allows flexibility for those who may not attend all sessions.

Competitive Outfit (150-300$): Each participant will need a competitive outfit, which can vary from $150 to $300 per person.

Remix Outfit (115$): A new zip-up hoodie and joggings will be required for all competitions and events preceding them, costing approximately $115.

Competitive Photoshoot (40-45$): A professional photoshoot will be conducted by the dance director herself, using her phone camera with stage lighting to capture the images. The fee covers setup costs, technician fees, lighting fees, hall rental, the teachers working that day, and the photographer’s time, ensuring a great experience with quality images.

Show Entry Fees (25-30$): The competitive show will be $30 per person, while recreational shows will be $25 per person. These are not just recitals; they are big production shows that will impress everyone! Please note that putting on these shows involves significant costs to ensure a high-quality experience.

Hotel Fees: If you're traveling for events, please budget for hotel accommodations, which can vary significantly based on location and booking time. Expect costs to range from $179 to $275 per night, depending on the hotel you choose and the duration of your stay.

We appreciate your understanding as these costs are essential for a comprehensive experience. Feel free to reach out with questions!

HOW COMPETITIONS WORK FOR EACH GROUP

- Each competitive team will have only 1 specific time slot during each of these weekends
- The exact schedule, with the exact day and times, will only be sent out 2-4 weeks prior to the dance competition
Please note: It is possible to be scheduled to dance during the day Thursday or Friday so you would be required to miss school if that is the case
- Once the schedule is out, you will be able to find your specific day and time on our website under DANCER INFO and Competition Info
- We will also notify you on the Facebook group as soon as the schedules are out

HOTELS FOR COMPETITION WEEKENDS

Each competition has their own partner hotel with a group rate that they offer.  You can find those links below.  When you call, you simply say you are with the competition and you are looking for the group rate.

HOWEVER, many of us often stay at a different hotel if we find better deals or we like a certain hotel better.  I will also list those below.  You are free to choose whatever accomodation works best for you.

MOVE DANCE COMPETITION - This competition is in Gatineau so it is an easy drive there and back home. If you really want to make a night or weekend out of it, you can find any hotel in and around the area.

HIT THE FLOOR - You can find their partner hotel info here: https://hitthefloor.ca/tournee/saint-hyacinthe-2024/

There is also a HOLIDAY INN minutes away from the competition and they have great deals.

5678 SHOWTIME - You can find their partner hotel info here: https://www.5678showtime.com/tour
Many many dancers now stay at the TOUR DES VOYAGEURS in Tremblant for this competition.  They have regular rooms and really nice suites available at a very decent price.
